Distinguish a component from the finished product
UL Recognized Component and UL Listed marks have different roles. A recognized PCB or material can support an end-product evaluation, but it does not by itself establish that the complete electronic product is certified.
Identify the exact manufacturing site, material and board construction covered by the relevant recognition. Review applicable ratings and conditions with the responsible certification or quality contact. A logo on a sample or an unrelated certificate does not define the scope of a proposed build.
Check the applicable construction requirements
PCB recognition can involve material, flammability, thermal and construction-related conditions. UL 796 and UL 796F address different printed-wiring-board or flexible-interconnect contexts. A material flammability rating alone is not equivalent to recognition of every board made from that material.
Assembly soldering exposure can be relevant to the recognized construction. Give the manufacturer the intended process and required ratings so the proposal can be checked against the applicable conditions. Resolve questions before artwork or purchasing is released.
Control marking through the approved process
Ask the authorized manufacturer or certification contact to confirm the correct mark, identification and placement for the approved construction. Do not copy another supplier’s mark or file number into Gerber artwork. The marking must correspond to the actual authorized product and source.
Keep customer identification and revision marks distinct from certification markings. Agree who supplies the final marking data and how it is checked during CAM review. A marking change should receive the same configuration control as other critical manufacturing information.
Request evidence that matches the order
Specify the required documentation and applicable ratings in the quotation request. Review the relevant listing or recognition information and any conditions of acceptability. Match that evidence to the site and construction proposed for the order.
